ZWO ASI294MC Pro CMOS Camera
The ASI294MC Pro is advertised as an 11.7MPixel one shot color camera with 4.63μm pixels. The pro designation indicates it has a 256MB buffer for faster downloads with minimal amp glow.
I purchased this one shot color (OSC) camera to replace my Orion StarShoot Pro OSC because the SSPro doesn't have an INDI driver, which means I can't run it without Windows and I'm not installing Windows just for one camera. I plan to mount the ASI294C on my C-11 for both imaging and live viewing.

The ASI294MC actually has a 48 megapixel sensor with 2.3μ pixels that is binned 2x2 on chip to get the advertised 11.7 megapixels, with the individual binned pixels being 4.63μ.
The mono version of the camera has been unlocked by ZWO to bin 1x1, just like the QHY 294 mono. QHY also unlocked the binning on their color version, but ZWO has not followed suite, although they claimed to be working on it when I spoke to them nearly two years ago. This camera is quite adequate for my needs, but I would have liked to experiment with the unbinned mode. I guess I should have bought a QHY. |
