The Solar Eclipse of 2024
I set up my PST solar telescope to watch the eclipse and snapped a few handheld phone camera photos through the zoom eyepiece. As such they are not the highest quality shots, but I am still surprised they show as much detail as they do. Of course, the live view through the telescope was much more detailed than these pitiful snapshots. These photos are cropped but not otherwise edited in any way.
A couple of prominences are visible along the suns edge in this shot.
Sunspots can be seen on the sun's disc.
Similar to the last photo except the moon is taking a bigger bite out of the sun.
Another shot as the moon keeps advancing.
Still heading towards maximum coverage.
Some sunspots and a prominence are visible in this picture near maximum.
Of course the clouds kept building as the eclipse progressed and I had to wait for glimpses of the sun through holes in the clouds.
It's now past maximum coverage at this location and the moon is moving away. There's two prominences easily visible on the Sun's rim.
More of the Sun has reappeared, but the prominences are still visible.
Clouds keep getting in the way.
Near the end and one of the last views of the sun I got because of the clouds.
