Star Trek TOS Bluetooth Communicator
Sometimes it's good to be a geek and this is one of those times. I grew up watching the original Star Trek series in the '60s before it was ever reruns. So how could I possibly be expected to pass up a real, honest-to-goodness working communicator that can be bluetoothed to your phone and make phone calls from here to Romulus? Well, OK, maybe not quite to Romulus...
But it's guaranteed to talk to a Constellation class starship at up to 1,000,000 km! The only caveat is I'll have to wait until at least the year 2245 for the first ship to be built. Minor detail...
Seriously, the TOS communicator is well constructed and very detailed. It was copied from an original prop but it's even better than a prop because it's functional. It's made by the creative geniuses at The WAND Company, my new heroes.

Open the antenna and it chirps just like on the TV show. And flipping the antenna open will automatically answer an incoming phone call which you are alerted to in the first place by the authentic "boop, boop" sound. To hang up just flip the antenna closed. By setting up voice commands on your android or iPhone you can make calls and do other cool stuff straight from the communicator.
Another authentic touch is the rotating moire pattern just like the original, and when audio comes over the speaker an LED flashes. The communicator can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker and even when not Bluetoothed to your phone you can still listen to prerecorded clips using the two small control buttons.

The communicator and the two-piece magnetic, inductive charging stand come packed in a hard plastic storage case with molded foam inserts. All you need to add is a 5-volt charging source, such as a USB port on your PC or a USB charger brick.

First thing to do is charge the internal lithium battery. The LED on the stand varies from yellow to red while charging and switches to blue and green when charged. The USB cable for charging plugs in the rear of the stand.

It's all packaged up rather nicely in an embossed hard case. Also included in the box is a nice color foldout instruction sheet plus a leatherette slip on cover with an embossed Star Trek logo.
